Perhaps one of the main difficulties of achieving variety within an interior is knowing where and how exactly to apply this last one. Nevertheless, if we take a minute to look around us, we'll notice that our common spaces are full of opportunities to incorporate a more balanced and dynamic space. Some of the questions that we could ask ourselves when trying to find the right spot and necessary modifications are: How could I portray the essential purpose of this room through its design? How could I make my guests feel more focused on this idea that I have in mind? Is there enough evidence of my style throughout my furniture arrangement, patterns, textures...?
Introducing some variations in color, lighting, decoration, texture and material does not only stimulate harmony in your space, but it also serves as an outline of what your area is trying to communicate to guests. With that said, it is also of extreme importance to remember that before applying the principles and elements of design according to your ideas, you should already have a concept in mind that goes along the same lines of one particular theme and color scheme, since although focal points are important, we do not want to just throw a very modern bright green table lamp into a more traditional space with a softer color scheme. The harmony, unity and variety of your space should all be on the same page in order to achieve a design that truly works and emphasizes your favorite intentions.
